About Me

My photo
Yarnland, State of Wool, Germany
I´m a total crafts junkie and started with knitting and crocheting when I was 10 years old. Over the years I got totally addicted to yarn and fibers and what you can do with them when you knit them or crochet them. Well, to make a long story short. I have to much yarn now! A lot of unfinished projects and I kept buying new yarn! This is the experiment, that in the next 365 days I will not buy any new yarn and will use up all the yarn I got to make things and then sell them in my onine store. At the end of this year I will donate 5% of my earnings to a good cause, which I still have to find. Please feel free to add me, follow my blog, subsribe or just e-mail me to make suggestions for a good cause!

Day 34... I NEED your help!

Well, as you know I also started the Sock yarn blanket by The heathen houswife and I bought all the yarn myself for it. But it seems like all the LYS around carry the same yarn, same colors and so on. I could really use some new colors in my blanket. I´m already using yarn, which is not sock yarn, but has the same length and needle size in my blanket.

Here a current picture of my progress: Not bad for a week and a half working on it...

I´m asking for donations here from my flickr and blogger friends. I don´t need a whole skein. Just the scrap sock Yarn you have left over from you sock projects. This would also fit in an envelope and wouldn´t cost much. In return, I will send each person who send me a donation of their yarn, a cute little felt kawaii creature I sewed. This also fit´s perfectly in an envelope and You will be mentioned in my blog and when I´m done with my blanket, I will knit a sock yarn pillow case the same way and at the end, all people who donated yarn will be in a drawing with their name and win the pillow case.

You can also tell your friends about this and let them send me some. Sock yarn is really expensive and soon the blanket project will be a really expensive one.

Here´s a project I worked on yesterday. Instead of snow we have a lot of rain now and so I stayed at home and made the shopping bad I bought at my local supermarket a lot prettier.

Please note the before and after picture. I hate boring bags and i love colorful things. I think for my first attempt, it turmed out great. :-D

I found those littel flowers in a 99 cent store. They have glue on the back and stick by themself on the felt. I used little white buttons for the dots on the mushrooms.

Talk to you tomorrow folks! And I hope that some of you will help me. Thanks again!!!

Day 33 ( Actually a lot more days passed...)

Hello everybody,

I hope you had or have a wonderful thursday. Here in Germany it´s almost midnight and I´m only a few minutes away from the holy friday. And then the wonderful weekend will be there.

I know,, i know... I didn´t write for a long time. I stopped on the 32nd day of my blog and didn´t post anything until today. But honestly! I wasn´t at all in the mood to write anything. i wouldn´t say depression but I was just not in the mood to do a lot of things except going to the library (It´s so wonderful quiet there in the morning!), going for walks (even though it was really cold and snowy!) and knitting, knitting, knitting... I finished a hat, as always way to small for my head so I will sell it as a kids hat in my store, and starting a long term project which will help me between other knitting projects to clear my mind.

Have you ever knitted in bed? NO! Do it! It´s so relaxing and listening to the late night radio when they play alternative or old love songs? This always helps me to relax and think about everything.

So, hat have I been up to lately in the knitting department? Here we go:

I started and finished a hat with Cascade 220 yarn in pink and Lana Grossa kids mohair. It really keeps your head warm and is really nice and soft because of the mohair:

And then I found some really soft yarn in a 99 cents store. It´s like the dollar stores in the states. And even so though it´s not that easy to knit I had the fantastic plan to knit a baby blanket with it. Well, one skein doesn´t contain a lot of yarn, only 50 m. So, after bein hard on my self to have spend that money on that yarn. I thought at least I can knit a scarf out of it. It it´s not long enough I will sew a pillowcase out of it. So you see, I have a lot of ideas when I start one project and you can never be sure what I will dou out of it in the end....

Well, during this process I found a picture of a knitted blanket out of small squares on flickr. I saw it right here:

In her descripton of the picture, she mention a blog of a woman who already knitted a blanket like that and where you can find the instruction. I will also post the link to her blog here, so everybody who wants also with this blanket will know how.

Sock Yarn Blanket by The Heathen Housewife (Shelly Kang)

And here are the pictures of my start and my progress: (And yes, you´re allowed to call me insane, because I want a hughe blanket. really hughe!)

During last week, I also had my friend Bianca over, to teach her how to crochet Amigurumis. Wehadnt enough time. So I just showed her the basics and lend her a book about it. She called me today and told me that she crochet a mouse and an Oreo cookie. Her daughter loves to play with it.

Well, so far from my side. Check my flickr account for more new pics, and I will post again tomorrow...

Day 29 - Last minutes gifts....

Progress on the last minute christmas gift for a friend. She don´t like the touch of real wool or any scratchy wool or yarn. I first wanted to knit her thrummed mittens, but after she told me I let her touch the filling and she sisn´t liked it at all. So I didn´t know what to do, because I already got her a cool shirt but also wanted to give her something crafted from me.

When I went to the supermarket on monday, they had that really soft yarn, called Pom Pom...it´s like little Pom Pom connected through strings. It´s not my yarn, because you can´t be really creative with it. But I had the idea that she will like it because it feels like a fleece jacket. So I bought four skeins in a nice rad color and will do a scarf/ cowl for her.

It will be the first and the last time I have knittted with this yarn, it´s definitively something for beginners but not for people who know how to knit like me.

Here are the pics:

Day 25 and Day 26....

Today I went shopping with my friend Bianca. She was looking for a pair of nice and comfy winterboots. But apperantly, even though all the shops had sales going on, they didn´t have the kind of shoes she was looking for. It was in the sixth and last store where we finally find some shoes for her. YEAH!!!

Afterwards we went to her place and cooked an awesome dinner and I gave the belated birthday gifts to her daughter. A nice pink sweater and two "My little ponys" where you can exchange the feets and brush the hair. She went crazy about them. We had to exchange the different colored feets twice. The wrapping said Age 3+ but also for me it was hard to get the feets of and put the other one in. Sometimes I wonde if those toy designers are really thinking kid toys through??

Well, it was too late to write something yesterday when I came home, so I´m writing it today. And I made progress on the ear pattern for my amigurumi. Right now I´m still decideing what it will be. But here is a pic how it looks like with one ear.

So, I will work on the other ear today and also thinking about to embroider it a bit... let´s see!

More from my side tomorrow! ;-)

Day 23 and 24.... being busy!

One day you´re so bored. You don´t know what to do and the other day you´re so busy, you don´t know how to handle everything.

Yesterday was already on my way to an important appointment and came home with a friend, we cooked chinese together and baked muffins and had a fun time. But after she lfet I felt so tired I went to bed at 9 p.m. That doesn´t happen often but I just wanted to sleep. Maybe I´m fighting a cold or something? i don´t know.

But I was very productive today. I almost done with the mohair scarf and started a new amigurumi. This time I´m trying to write my own pattern. So far I´m done with the head, first it didn´t look good. Without the filling the head looked funny, and I was about to frogg it and start over. Well I continued and also sewed eyes on and eyelids as well. Check out the pics, I think for my first attempt on a pattern, it looks pretty cool.

Let me know what you think.
